carol’s walk

by carol nelson & VIC LLEWELLYN

Carol is retired from work and  lives on Spike Island. We talked a lot about her life in Bristol, and how she met her late husband, John, after a chance meeting with a stranger on Nelson Street. It was a romantic tale and we found it amazing that just by being outside a certain building, at a particular time of day it could have such a dramatic impact on one's life. You could have so easily have been somewhere else and a whole different sequence of events would have arisen.

We also talked about her love of travel and walking. We thought it might be fun to mix her romantic story with one of her favourite walks.

We invite you to download the route and take Carol’s Walk yourselves. See below for a link to the walk in Google Maps (can be downloaded and followed on your phone) and an accompanying PDF with Carol’s memories and reflections for reading along the route.

SOME OF CAROL’S REFLECTIONS ALONG THE ROUTE

I moved to Bristol in the 1960’s. That was before I met John. Then a quick impulsive decision that I made changed everything.

A chance meeting with a stranger.
